Open Day in Raheny Library on Howth Road Project
Please call to see us at the Raheny Library - we will be there all day on the 15th October.
The members of the Society have undertaken to gather together as much
information, maps and photographs of the Howth Road as is possible. It is
intended to exhibit the findings, and, if sufficient material is forthcoming,
to publish a book about the Howth Road from Fairview to Blackbanks.
This exhibition is an initial one to show the type of information that is
available.
We are interested in anecdotes about the Howth Road in ‘past years’,
about people, famous or not so famous, who have lived along it, about the
businesses and shops, and about the architecture along the road (including
dates when houses were built. We are particular interested in details and
photographs of houses of any age showing the period features associated
with the house at the time that it is built. This is especially important for
the lovely red-brick houses and the art-deco houses. Similarly we are keen
to plot the changes to the route followed by the road, especially with the
changes introduced by the building of the Dublin to London Road about
1815 and the arrival of the railway in 1845.
If you have information or photos to do with the Howth Road, we would
